The Society for Computers in Anesthesiology
Goals
The Society for Computers in Anesthesiology (SCIA) has as its goals the encouragement and facilitation of the application of computer science to the clinical practice of anesthesiology, along with all of its related administrative, business, research, and teaching activities. SCIA wishes to stimulate knowledge exchange related to these goals via publications and formal and informal contacts between interested colleagues. A major activity consistent with these goals is facilitation of the perpetuation of the annual symposia known as "Computers in Anesthesiology" originally conceived by Dr. Frank Scammon and now in its seventeenth continuous year.
Meetings
Computers in Anesthesiology XVI was held from 25-29 October 1995 in Nashville, Tennessee. Pictures from the meeting.
Computers in Anesthesiology XVII will be held from 23-26 October 1996 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Registration will be 4-8 PM Wednesday, 23 October 1996 (the closing day of the Annual Convention of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, ASA).Scientific sessions commence at 8 AM Thursday, 24 October 1996, and the annual business meeting of SCIA from 4-6 PM Thursday, 24 October 1996 in New Orleans.

Membership and Officers
The list of current officers illustrates the widely varied backgrounds and vocations which come together in this special interest focus, and symbolizes the eclectic membership which will continue to vitalize the organization. The list of officers is composed of individuals who have been directly responsible for organizing the Annual Symposium for the past several years and were elected from all voting members at the annual business meeting held on 26 October 1995. Board of Directors meetings will be held as needed or at least once per year.

Dues
Annual dues are set by the board of Directors on a prospective basis, based on proposed activities of the SCIA and benefits to the dues paying members. Current dues are only US$5 per year which maintains membership from date of acceptance into SCIA until 1 January 1997. The current dues fee level intentionally is set only to cover costs of maintaining mailing lists and sending notifications to members. Applications for membership must include the endorsement of two active members of the SCIA.
