Educational Synopses in Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine-Italia

publishes scholarly reviews and original research in the fields of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. Original work includes clinical or laboratory investigations, and clinical reports. Reviews include information for Continuing Medical Education (CME), review articles and equipment reports. It also publishes letters to the Editor.

Manuscripts

Manuscripts containing original material are accepted for consideration. The journal's primary focus at this time is on providing educational resource materials for clinicians.
Manuscripts describing investigations carried out in humans will not be accepted for publication unless the text states that the study was approved by, and carried out according to the instructions of the author's institutional Human Investigation or Ethics Committee. Reports of investigations in animals will not be accepted for publication unless the text states that the study was approved by the author's institutional Animal Investigation Committee.
Manuscripts should be prepared and submitted in accord with the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals" reprinted in Canadian Medical Association Journal 1988, 138:321-8, Annals of Internal Medicine 1988, 108: 258-65, or British Medical Journal 1988; 296: 401-5.

The following guidelines should be referred to in the preparation of manuscripts.

General

Manuscripts should be submitted in English or in Italian. An abstract should be printed in English at the beginning of the text for research reports.Each of the following sections must be present: title paragraph,abstract and key words, text, acknowledgments, references.

Title Paragraph

In addition to the full title, provide a short title of no more than 40 characters. List authors' names, including first names and academic degrees. Indicate Departments(s) and Institution(s) in which

the work was carried out, and the name and address of the author to whom correspondence should be addressed. Acknowledge any grant or other support, as appropriate.

Abstract and Key Words

The second section should contain an abstract of not more than 250 words. The abstract should state the purpose of the study, basic procedures (subjects and methods), main findings (specific results where possible) and the principal conclusions. All abbreviations should be defined.

Three to ten key words or phrases should be given below the abstract. The following may serve as a source for key words: Greene NM. Key Words in Anesthesiology, 3rd ed. New York: Elsevier Science Publishing Company Inc., 1988.

Text

The text of original research articles is usually, but not necessarily, divided into the following sections:

Introduction

Methods

Results

Discussion

Abbreviations should be preceded by the full term for which they stand, the first time they appear in the text.

Units of Measurement

Units should conform to the Syst?me International (SI). Authors may elect to include traditional units, in addition to the SI units.

References

Number references consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Journal titles must be abbreviated according to the style used in Index Medicus. Unpublished observations, including information from manuscripts submitted for publication but not yet accepted, are not acceptable as references. Articles published without peer review should not be included as reference articles. Abstracts are accepted only if published within the previous five years in a

peer reviewed journal. Editorials, Abstracts, and Correspondence should be identified as such after the title. List all authors if six or less, otherwise list first three, then "et al".

Illustrations

Submit illustrations as GIF, BMP or TIF files in MSDOS format. Alternately, we can scan prints for you (in which case please place on the back of the print a label giving the author's name,

number in order of appearance, and top edge of the print). A legend must accompany each illustration.

Review

Each manuscript received is reviewed by two or more authorities. Authors should receive a report of the review process and be given a decision on publication within eight weeks of receipt of

the manuscript.

Submission Letter
A covering letter should state that (1) the manuscripts has been read and approved by all authors, (2) the material has not been published, in whole or in part, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, (3) sources of financial support should be acknowledged.

Where financial arrangements could lead to conflict, they should be disclosed. Such information will be held in confidence during the review process.
